Design Code for Steel Structures GB50017 (draft for comments) published

According to the requirements of the Notice of the Ministry of Construction on Issuing the Second Batch of Formulation and Revision Plan for Engineering Construction Standard Specifications in 2008 (Jian Biao [2008] No. 105), MCC Jingcheng Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. and other units are responsible for revising the Steel Structure Design Specification. The draft for soliciting opinions has been completed and officially released on June 30, 2012.


The main revision contents of the draft for soliciting opinions on the GB50017-2003 specification are listed as follows:


1. "Terminology and Symbols (Chapter 2)" has removed the terms related to loads from the original specifications and added terms related to structural systems, seismic design, etc.


2. The "Basic Design Regulations (Chapter 3)" have added the category of component sections and provisions related to earthquake resistance. The content of "material selection" and "design indicators" has been moved to a new chapter "Material and Material Selection (Chapter 5)". The content of structural calculation has been moved to a new chapter "Structural Analysis and Stability Design (Chapter 6)". The production, transportation, and installation content in "Construction Requirements" has been incorporated into this chapter.


3. "Calculation of bending components (formerly Chapter 4)" has been changed to "Calculation of bending, shear, and torsion components and design of beams (Chapter 7)", with additional content on torsion calculation and web opening. The content related to beam design in "Construction Requirements" has been moved to this chapter.


4. "Calculation of axial force components and tension bending and compression bending components (formerly Chapter 5)" has been changed to "Calculation of axial force components and design of truss members (Chapter 8)" and "Calculation of tension bending and compression bending components and design of columns (Chapter 9)". The content related to column design in "Construction Requirements" has been moved to Chapter 9.


5. "Fatigue calculation (formerly Chapter 6)" has been changed to "Fatigue calculation and anti brittle fracture design (Chapter 17)", adding a simple and fast method for calculating fatigue strength. "Requirements for improving the anti brittle fracture ability of structures in cold regions" in "Construction requirements" have been moved to this chapter, and supplementary provisions for anti brittle fracture design have been added.


6. "Connection Calculation (formerly Chapter 7)" has been changed to "Connection (Chapter 12)" and "Nodes (Chapter 13)". The content related to welding and bolt connections in "Construction Requirements" has been merged into Chapter 12, and the content of column bases has been merged into Chapter 13.


7. The provisions in "Construction Requirements (formerly Chapter 8)" shall be merged into relevant chapters according to their content;


8. "Plastic design (formerly Chapter 9)" has been changed to "Plastic amplitude modulation design (Chapter 11)", changing the plastic design concept and adopting the approach of internal force redistribution for design.


9. "Steel pipe structure (formerly Chapter 10)" has been changed to "Steel pipe connection nodes (Chapter 14)", enriching the calculation of node connection types. In addition, the content of node stiffness determination has been added.


10. "Steel concrete composite beams (formerly Chapter 11 now Chapter 15)" has added longitudinal shear design content and deleted content related to bending reinforcement connectors.


11. Delete 6 terms, 1 material, 1 column construction, 1 truss calculation, 2 regulations for large-span structures, and 1 requirement for the construction of bent bar connectors in the article. (Delete the following clauses: 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.4, 2.1.5, 2.1.19, 2.1.20, 3.3.2, 8.4.2, 8.4.8, 8.6.1, 8.6.4, 10.2.6, 11.5.6)


In addition, this revision has added chapters on structural systems (Chapter 4), material and material selection (Chapter 5), structural analysis and stability design (Chapter 6), steel plate shear walls (Chapter 10), steel tube concrete columns and nodes (Chapter 16), seismic design of steel structure components and nodes (Chapter 18), steel structure protection (Chapter 19), etc. At the same time, the appendix has added content such as structural ductility classification, applicable scope and basic design requirements for large-span steel structures, design of honeycomb beams, and fatigue verification of steel concrete composite beams.
